Kington Show Rules, please note that you will need new membership cards to participate in this event and that the entry form needs to be returned to the Herefordshire YFC office, with entry fee by Monday 30th August.

SCHEDULE OF YOUNG FARMERS` CLUB COMPETITIONS

CLASS 1
STOCKJUDGING – BEEF, SHEEP, HEREFORD CATTLE, LAMB CARCASES
PLACINGS ONLY COMMENCE AT 2.00 p.m.
Each Club may enter UP TO A MAXIMUM OF THREE teams. Teams to consist of TWO members, one 26 years and under, one 16 years and under on 1st September 2010. Each competitor will be required to place one ring of the following animals:
a) 4 Beef Cattle Butchers Beef
b) 4 Sheep Fat Lambs
c) 4 Hereford Cattle Breeding Stock
d) 4 Lamb Carcases
e) The animals will be designated A,B,X and Y and competitors will be allowed 15 minutes to view, handle and place.

Maximum Marks……………………………………….400 per team

CLASS 2
STOCKJUDGING – BEEF CATTLE COMMENCE AT 2.00p.m.
Each club may enter ONE team of TWO members – one 26 years and under, one 16 years and under on 1st September 2010.
Each competitor will be required to judge one ring of FOUR BUTCHERS` BEASTS and place in order of merit.
The animals will be designated A,B,X,Y and competitors will be allowed 15 minutes to view, handle and place in the ring and two minutes to state their reasons to the judge.

CLASS 3
STOCKJUDGING – SHEEP COMMENCE AT 12 noon
Each club may enter one team of TWO members, one under 26 years and under, one 16 years and under on 1st September 2010.
Each competitor will be required to judge one ring of FOUR FAT LAMBS. The animals will be designated A,B,X,Y and competitors will be allowed 15 minutes to view, handle and place in order of merit in the ring and 2 minutes to state their reasons to the judge.

THEME FOR Y. F. C. MARQUEE
“COLOURS OF THE RAINBOW”

CLASS 4 FLOWER ARRANGEMENT – JUNIOR 10.00a.m.
The competition is open to ONE entry per club, 16 years and under on 1st September 2010. Competitors will be required to do a front facing exhibit depicting “MY FAVOURITE COLOUR” Table space allowed 45 cms wide x 45 cms deep x unlimited height. No alcoves to be used. A background and drapes may be used. The exhibit is to be staged on a base.
An exhibit is composed of natural plant material with or without accessories, contained within a space as specified above.
All arrangements must be assembled during the competition. Competitors to bring their own materials, equipments etc.
TO BE JUDGED UNDER NAFAS RULES

Maximum time allowed………………………45 minutes


CLASS 5 FLOWER ARRANGEMENT- SENIOR 10.00a.m.
This competition is open to ONE member per club 26 years of age and under on 1st September 2010. Competitors will be required to do an exhibit to be viewed from all side depicting “SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW”. Table space allowed 76cms wide x 61 cms deep x unlimited height. No alcoves to be used. Drapes may be used. The exhibit is to be staged on a base.
An exhibit is composed of natural plant material with or without accessories, contained within a space as specified above.
All arrangements must be assembled during the competition. Competitors to bring their own materials, equipments etc.

Maximum marks………………………………100 per competitor
Maximum time allowed………………………..45 minutes.




CLASS 6 SCARECROW 9.30a.m. STAGED

Open to ONE member per club 26 years of age or under on 1st September 2010. The scarecrow may be made of any medium to a MAXIMUM size of 5ft high x 4ft wide x 2ft deep.

CLASS 7 WEATHER FORECAST 12.30p.m.
Open to ONE member per club 21 years of age or under on 1st September, 2010. Each member to present `The Weather Forecast`. Minimum of 2 minutes and maximum of 5 minutes allowed. Each competitor to bring all their own pops. A flip chart will be provided if required.

CLASS 8 JUNIOR POT LUCK 2.30p.m.
This competition is open to a team of TWO members 16 years of age and under on 1st September 2010. Up to two entries per club can enter. Competitors need to report by 2.30p.m. to be told what they will be doing.

CLASS 9 JUNIOR COOKING 11.30a.m.
This competition is open to ONE member per club 16 years of age or under on September 1st 2010. Competitors will be required to decorate 7 FAIRY CAKES depicting RAINBOW COLOURS and suitably display on a plate. Cakes to be brought to the competition base iced with royal icing ready to decorate. Competitors will be required to provide all their own ingredients, equipment etc.

CLASS 10 SENIOR COOKERY 11.30a.m.

This competition is open to ONE member per club 26 years of age or under on 1st September 2010. Each competitor will be required to produce A PLATTER OF 7 CANAPES OF THE RAINBOW. 3 Canapιs can be made before hand and brought completed but the other 4 must be made at the competition. Competitors will be required to provide all ingredients, equipments etc,

CLASS 11 GROUP STARS IN YOUR EYES 2.00p.m.
Each club may enter a TEAM (minimum 3 members, maximum 7 members) all of whom must be 26 years of age and under on 1st September 2010. No solo artists or live music allowed. Procedure – competitors are required to dress up in style of the group of their choice and then perform their chosen song. The team will be required to provide its own backing music on CD or cassette tape. No lead vocals to be on the backing track. A cassette/CD tape deck and speakers will be provided. Competitors will be required to sing their song on stage in front of an audience A maximum of 4 hand held microphones or microphones on stands or on leads will be available for use. Competitors MUST sing – NO miming. No time restriction.
Song tiles to be submitted to Herefordshire YFC by 12 noon on FRIDAY 3rd September 2010. Late entries will be penalised at a rate of 10 marks per working day.

CLASS 12 NEEDLEWORK 9.30a.m. STAGED

This competition is open to one member per club 26 years of age or under on September 1st, 2010. The competitor to make SEVEN triangles- each of a size 10” left to right at the top x 9” drop and join to make a length of bunting, and bring to the show ready for hanging by 9.30a.m. Triangles to depict “Kington Show” (Bunting remains the property of the YFC show cmmitteee)

CLASS 13 HANDWRITING 1.00p.m.
Open to one competitor per club, 21 years of age or under on September 1st, 2010. Each competitor to write a `Limerick` entitled `RAINBOW`. This is a practical competition to be written on show day, although the words for the limerick can be pre written on paper ready. Limerick, on show day, to be written on a piece of paper A4 in size and displayed.

CLASS 14 SOMETHING NEW OUT OF OLD. 9.30a.m. STAGED
This competition is open to one member per club 26 years of age or under on September 1st, 2010. One member to make A GREEN SCULPTURE out of old materials to a size of 2ft wide x 2ft high.

CLASS 15 DRESSING UP A CLUB LEADER 3.00p.m.
This competition is open to TWO members per club, 16 years of age or under on 1st September 2010. Competitors are required to dress up a club leader as `THE WIZARD OF OZ` using only newspaper and wallpaper. Competitors to provide all their own materials.

CLASS 16 SCRAPBOOK 9.30a.m. STAGED
Each club to bring their 2009/2010 scrapbook for display purposes only. Scrapbooks need to be in the YFC Marquee by 9.30a.m.

CLASS 17 WOTS IN THE BAG 3.30p.m.
One member, 26 years or under, to talk for 2 minutes on an item which he/she will pick out of a bag. There will be 15 items in the bag (number of items in the bag will depend on number of entries) and you will only be required to talk on ONE item for TWO minutes.

CLASS 18 PRETTIEST SUNFLOWER . 9.30a.m. STAGED
Open to one member per club 26 years of age or under on September 1st, 2010. Each competitor to bring to the YFC Marquee by 9.30a.m. a self standing (either in a pot or with supporting stick) a `Pretty Sunflower`.

A W A R D S


The Major H.E.B. Holden Perpetual Challenge Cup will be awarded to the Club gaining the highest aggregate marks in all competitions.

The Messrs J & P Turner Ltd Perpetual Challenge Cup will be awarded to the winning team in Class 1.

The Hector Morris Challenge Cup will be awarded to the Club gaining the highest aggregate marks in the Home Craft Section ~ Classes: 4, 5, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14 and 16.

Prize Cards ~ these will be awarded to the highest individual scorers in each section.

ENTRY FEE / FORMS

• The highest mark from each Club will go forward to the Overall Cup.

• An entry fee of £10.00 entitles a Club to enter all Classes and SHOULD BE SENT WITH THE ENTRY FORM TO: Herefordshire YFC Office, YFC Centre, Beech Business Park, Tillington Road, Hereford HR4 9QJ

• Completed entry forms to be returned by Monday 30th August 2010 or sooner if possible along with £10 entry fee.

• Cheques to be made payable to: HEREFORDSHIRE FEDERATION OF YOUNG FARMERS CLUBS.

• All members must have valid membership cards. Members with cards that have expired will not be allowed to compete (due to insurance purposes).
