Gaynor's Gossip

2nd December 2011

Hi folks,

Christmas is nearly here, how exciting! This will of course be the last Gaynors Goss for 2011.

Congratulations to Dolau YFC for winning the overall Public Speaking Competition, well done to you all. The Public Speaking results are on the web site for you all to see.

Chairman’s Ball

Some money and a mobile phone was stolen out of one of our members bags last Saturday night at the Chairman’s Ball. This is something that I thought would never happen there, as there was only about 200 people in total and the majority of those would be YFC members, but of those people there, there was a ‘bad one’ amongst you, so please beware that at all YFC events from now on, keep your belongings close to you at all times.

Please find below a message from the police with regards to the crime

Knighton - Theft of purse and mobile phone

Sometime between midnight and 1.00 am on Sunday 27th November 2011 a guest at an event held at the Knighton community centre left her bag unattended on a table whilst she socialised. Sadly upon her return her bag had been rifled and her purse containing £60.00 cash and a black wildfire mobile phone were now missing.

Remember, when out always keep your personal belongings close at hand. Do not advertise the valuables you have and Keep handbags closed and never on display.

Mobile phones as well as computers can now be protected. There is lots of information available on the internet and Dyfed-Powys Police are more than happy to discuss crime prevention with anybody who is concerned. One such site is http://preyproject.com/ which installs a tiny agent in your PC or phone, which then silently waits for a remote signal to activate it. If the device is stolen then you send this signal either from the Internet or through an SMS message, and it allows you to gather information regarding about its location, hardware and network status, and can even trigger specific actions on it. You can quickly find out where your mobile phone or computer is located, who's using it, and what they are doing on it.

This event at the Community centre and advertised for Saturday 26th was well attended and if you were there and saw anyone acting in a manner that you consider to be suspicious then you are urged to contact your local police. If you actually saw this offence being committed or have any information whatsoever that may identify those responsible you are asked to contact PC 862 Wayne Ballard. The contact numbers are, from within Wales 101 or from elsewhere 01267 222020 or the Crimestoppers number can be used if you wish to remain anonymous 0800 555111. Alternatively, you can e-mail PC Ballard on wayne.ballard@dyfed-powys.pnn.police.uk

These media releases for the Knighton & Presteigne areas are circulated to local businesses and residents as well as the press. If you know of anyone who would like to receive them please feel free to get in touch. Conversely, if you would like to unsubscribe from them just let me know and I’ll remove your details from my circulation list.

Hi All
This year as part of the Theatre in Education that we offer to schools we have booked Ape Theatre company to deliver a play called 'Pills, Thrills and Automobiles' which looks at the effects of drug driving.

The play is aimed at 16 to 21 year olds and is a documentary - taken from interviews, telling the true story of four 18 year olds who after a weekend of drugs and sleep deprivation at a music festival, crashed horrifically on the motorway in 1997. Two of the victims died; one at the scene of the incident and one after being airlifted to Hospital.

We usually only offer the play to the high schools throughout Powys, however we have decided to give a public viewing which will be held at the Royal Albert Hall in Llandrindod on Monday 20th February 2012 at 7.30pm.

I would like to as you to advertise this play to your YFC groups in your area to try and get as many members as possible to attend. Perhaps it can be advertised as a senior social evening? The play will be available for anyone 15 and over. Admission will be completely free.

The play will last for approximately 50 minutes and will be followed by a small workshop where the audience will be able to ask the cast questions on the effects of drug driving.

Due to a limited number of seats, please could you ask either the club secretary / leader to contact me to let me know roughly how many seats they will require.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Many thanks
