RADNOR & HEREFORDSHIRE FEDERATIONS OF YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUBS
KINGTON SHOW

SCHEDULE OF YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUBS COMPETITIONS
CLASS 1 STOCKJUDGING ~ BEEF, SHEEP, HEREFORD CATTLE, LAMB CARCASES PLACINGS ONLY 1.00pm
Each Club may enter UP TO A MAXIMUM OF FIVE teams. Teams to consist of TWO members, one 26 years and under, one 16 years and under on 1 September 2008. Each competitor will be required to place one ring of the following animals:
A) 4 Beef Cattle Butchers’ Beef
B) 4 Sheep Fat Lambs
C) 4 Hereford Cattle Breeding stock
D) 4 Lamb Carcases
The animals will be designated A,B,X,Y and competitors will be allowed 15 minutes to view, handle and place.
Maximum marks ................................................................. 400 per team
CLASS 2 STOCKJUDGING ~ BEEF CATTLE 1.00pm
Each Club may enter ONE team of TWO members – one 26 years and under, one 16 years and under on 1 September 2008.
Each competitor will be required to judge one ring of FOUR BUTCHERS’ BEASTS and place in order of merit.
The animals will be designated A,B,X,Y and competitors will be allowed 15 minutes to view, handle and place in the ring and two minutes to state their reasons to the Judge.

CLASS 3 STOCKJUDGING ~ SHEEP 1.00pm
Each Club may enter ONE team of TWO members, one 26 years and under, one 16 years and under on 1 September 2008.
Each competitor will be required to Judge one ring of FOUR FAT LAMBS.
The animals will be designated A,B,X,Y and competitors will be allowed 15 minutes to view, handle and place in the order of merit in the ring and 2 minutes to state their reasons to the Judge.

THEME FOR YFC MARQUEE –
“Moments in History”
CLASS 4 FLOWER ARRANGEMENT ~ JUNIOR 10.00 AM
This competition is open to ONE entry per Club, 16 years and under on 1 September 2008. Competitors will be required to “depict an historical event”. Table space allowed 45 cms wide x 45 cms deep x unlimited height. No alcoves to be used. A background and drapes may be used. The exhibit is to be staged on a base.
An exhibit is composed of natural plant material with or without accessories, contained within a space as specified above.
All arrangements must be assembled during the competition. Competitors to bring their own materials, equipment, etc.
TO BE JUDGED UNDER NAFAS RULES.

CLASS 5 FLOWER ARRANGEMENT ~ SENIOR 10:00 AM
This competition is open to ONE entry per Club 26 years and under on 1 September 2008. Competitors will be required to do a front facing exhibit depicting “a Monarch”. Table space allowed 76 cms wide x 61 cms deep x unlimited height. No alcoves to be used. A background and drapes may be used. The exhibit is to be staged on a base.
An exhibit is composed of natural plant material with or without accessories, contained within a space as specified above.
All arrangements must be assembled during the competition. Competitors to bring their own materials, equipment, etc.

CLASS 6 SOLO STARS IN YOUR EYES 11.00 AM
Each Club may enter ONE member who must be 26 years of age or under on 1st September 2008. No live music allowed. Procedure – competitors are required to dress up in the style of the artist of their choice and then perform their chosen song. The competitor will be required to provide his/her own backing music on CD or cassette tape. No lead vocals to be on the backing track. Competitors will be required to sing their song on stage in front of an audience. A cassette/CD tape deck and speakers will be provided. One hand held radio microphone or a microphone on a stand or on a lead will be available for use. Competitors MUST sing – NO miming. No time restriction.
Song titles to be submitted to Radnor YFC by 12 noon on Friday 5th September 2008. Late entries will be penalised at a rate of 10 marks per working day.
Marking system:
Performance 50; Visual likeness 25; Vocal likeness 25; Total marks 100.
CLASS 7 JUNIOR POT LUCK 2.30 PM
This competition is open to a team of TWO members 16 years and under on 1 September 2008. Up to two entries per Club can enter. Competitors need to report by 2.30 p.m. to be told what they will be doing.

CLASS 8 SENIOR & JUNIOR TEAM COOKERY 10.00 AM
The competition is open to a team of TWO members per club, one 26 years and under and one 16 years and under on 1 September 2008. Competitors will be required to cook a meal for two to celebrate a Royal Wedding. The meal to include 2 courses and a drink. The meal is to be presented on a flat surface but levels may be used. No alcoves allowed.
Two gas rings to be used. Members to provide their own cookers (which must be corgi tested and a certificate to be brought to show the cookery steward on Kington Show Day). Competitors will be required to provide all other equipment and ingredients. No blow torches allowed. No items to be prepared beforehand. Area allowed 1 trestle table to prepare plus 68 cms x 68 cms to display.
PLEASE NOTE COOKERS NEED TO BE CORGI CHECKED BEFOREHAND AND A CURENT CERTIFICATE IS TO BE BROUGHT WITH YOU ON KINGTON SHOW DAY

CLASS 9 STREET TRADER 12.30 PM
A team of two members each of whom must be under 26 years of age on 1st September 2008. The team will be required to set up a stall to promote and offer an item of their own choice.
Radnor YFC will provide one trestle table.
TIMING - 5 minutes for setting up the stall and 5 minutes for the promotion.
One mark will be deducted for each half minute (or part thereof) outside the stipulated time for the promotion.

CLASS 10 DESIGN A COAT OF ARMS 9.30 AM (STAGED)
This competition is open to ONE member per Club 18 years and under on
1st September 2008. The Coat of Arms can be made of any medium. Competitors will be required to exhibit A COAT OF ARMS in a space not to exceed 30cms wide x 30cms deep, unlimited height.

CLASS 11 GROUP STARS IN YOUR EYES 2.00 PM
Each Club may enter a TEAM (minimum 3 members, maximum 7 members) all of whom must be 26 years of age or under on 1st September 2008. No solo artists or live music allowed. Procedure – competitors are required to dress up in the style of the group of their choice and then perform their chosen song. The team will be required to provide its own backing music on CD or cassette tape. No lead vocals to be on the backing track. A cassette/CD tape deck and speakers will be provided. Competitors will be required to sing their song on stage in front of an audience. A maximum of 4 hand held radio microphones or microphones on stands or on leads will be available for use. Competitors MUST sing – NO miming. No time restriction.

CLASS 12 PROMOTE YFC SIGN 9.30 AM (STAGED)
Clubs to stage in the YFC marquee by 9.30 a.m a YFC sign to “Promote YFC’ suitable to be displayed on the side of the road. Sign not to exceed 1 metre square in total.
Maximum of 3 colours on white background. Sign must be made of weatherproof material.

CLASS 13 SOMETHING NEW FROM SOMETHING OLD 9.30 AM (STAGED)
This competition is open to ONE Member per Club 26 years of age or under on
1st September 2008. One member to make something new out of something old, to be displayed on ½ a trestle table.

CLASS 14 DRESSING UP A CLUB LEADER 3.00 PM
This competition is open to TWO members per Club, 16 years of age or under on
1st September 2008. Competitors are required to dress up a Club Leader as a ‘Historical Leader’ using newspapers. Competitors to provide their own newspapers.

CLASS 15 SCRAPBOOK 9.30 AM
Each Club to bring their 2007/2008 Scrapbook for display purposes only for which 100 points will be awarded. Scrapbooks need to be in Y.F.C Marquee by 9:30 AM.
CLASS 16 CARICATURE 12 NOON
This competition is open to one member 21 years and under on 1st September 2008. Competitor to draw a caricature of a ‘Famous Person’. Finished caricature to be on white A4 paper. Competitor to supply paper and all necessary equipment. Competitor also to display original picture of the famous person.
Time allowed 1 hour

CLASS 17 ‘WOT’S IN THE BAG’ 3.30 PM
One member 26 years and under, to talk for 2 minutes on an item which he/she will pick out of a bag. There will be 15 items in the bag (number of items in the bag will depend on number of entries) and you will only be required to talk on one item for two minutes.

This competition is open to ANY NUMBER OF members per Club 26 years of age or under on 1st September 2008 to exhibit their “TALLEST THISTLE”..

A W A R D S
The Major H.E.B. Holden Perpetual Challenge Cup will be awarded to the Club gaining the highest aggregate marks in all competitions.
The Messrs J & P Turner Ltd Perpetual Challenge Cup will be awarded to the winning team in Class 1.
The Hector Morris Challenge Cup will be awarded to the Club gaining the highest aggregate marks in the Home Craft Section ~ Classes: 4, 5, 8, 10, 12, 13, 15 and 16.
Prize Cards ~ these will be awarded to the highest individual scorers in each section.
ENTRY FEE / FORMS
· The highest mark from each Club will go forward to the Overall Cup.
· An entry fee of £10.00 entitles a Club to enter all Classes and SHOULD BE SENT WITH THE ENTRY FORM TO: Gaynor James, Radnor YFC Office, Rhoslyn, High Street, Llandrindod Wells, Powys LD1 6AG
· Completed entry forms to be returned by Monday 1st September 2008 or sooner if possible along with £10 entry fee.
· Cheques to be made payable to: RADNOR FEDERATION OF YOUNG FARMERS CLUBS.
· All members must have valid membership cards. Members with cards that have expired will not be allowed to compete (due to insurance purposes).
· After entry forms have been received Clubs may notify the Radnor YFC Office up until 12 noon on Friday 12th September by telephone on 01597 829008 (not by email) if they have decided to withdraw from any of the above classes. If any competitors subsequently fail to turn up for any of the above classes at the Show (with the exception of the stockjudging classes) then the Club will be deducted the maximum possible points from their overall total score
PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES ~ 5.00 PM
N.B. COMPETITORS MAY NOT REMOVE EXHIBITS BEFORE 5.00 PM UNDER PENALTY OF DISQUALIFICATION. ALL EXHIBITS MUST BE REMOVED BY 6.00 PM. AFTER THAT TIME THE ORGANISERS TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR SAFETY
